How Do I Love Me As Is

How Do I Love ME As Is?

Loving me has always been a struggle. Whether it was the media, school staff, my peers, or sometimes my family – there seemed to always be a reason why I couldn’t possibly love myself. Loving me meant so many scary things: being perfectly imperfect, accepting who I am, and to stop apologizing for not being like others. It started with my acknowledgement of my maker, God. Once I realized He took his precious time molding and creating me, that he loved me in spite of me, and that he even loved me for everything I was not I had no choice but to accept myself.

Psalm 139:14New International Version (NIV)

14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

Once you begin to love yourself, something interesting happens. You realize how you’re treating yourself and you make changes to treat yourself better. For me, that included learning how to care for my natural hair. I fought my curly, thick texture for so many years and I knew it was time to accept it and work with it. I began to eat better and exercise to improve my self-esteem and get those “feel-good” endorphins flowing. I allowed myself rest and didn’t beat myself up for missing what I thought should’ve been the mark. I prayed for my enemies instead of trying to retaliate.

I have learned that the easiest way to love yourself is to project that love to others. It creates a habit of love and since there is nothing greater than love it will slowly wipe out any hurt or pain keeping you from loving yourself. The more love you put out, the more love your mind is forced to take in.

Learn to love yourself – it will be the best decision of your life.

1 Corinthians 13:13New International Version (NIV)

13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

With Love,
